Junior and Senior training suggestions
Before getting started, some suggestions:
Guidelines for Training Sessions:
· Coaches should always try to be 10 minutes early for every training session to ensure a responsible adult is present as children start to arrive. This also allows you time to set up.
· Make sure drinking water and first aid kit is available for each session
· Plan ahead for each session. Depending on age level, suitable drills should be set up.
· Each session should include a full warm up, to include stretching, jogging and sprinting.
· If a coach notices any injured players at this time, full training is not recommended.
· Toilet breaks, children should leave and return in twos. Coaches should not accompany children.
· Coaches should not leave an unattended child after sessions end.
· Notification of weekend match and meeting time to be sent to all parents and club secretary.
· It is recommended that all players must wear club training gear if available.
TIP:
1. Make the session fun.
2. Ask parents to inform manager as soon as possible if players cannot attend weekend game. Last minute notification can leave teams struggling for players to field a team.

· Pitch preparation – Check with pitch co-ordinator that all pitches are marked before the weekend games. Before kick off, Check pitch for dangerous objects, stones, bottles, cans etc. Warm up's should be held off the pitch area before the game.
· Make sure you have your first aid kit and water with you on the sideline
· Cancelling matches – each manager must notify the club secretary no later than 2 weeks before said date, for game to be cancelled. Secretary will inform the league. NOTE: Only two cancellations allowed per season.
· Check pitch for dangerous objects, stones, bottles, cans etc.
· Unplayable pitches – It is the responsibility of the manager playing first on the home pitch to notify club secretary before 9:00am (match day) if pitch is unplayable. Secretary will then notify all managers as well as opposition managers.
· Kit preparation – Each manager must make sure that all team players have full kit before kick-off. Full kit includes club jersey, shorts, socks, shin guards and appropriate football boots. No jewelry will be allowed to be worn during the game.
· There must be two match balls available.
· When filling out match card with player names and ID numbers, as manager, remember to sign the card.
· If match referee does not turn up, speak with opposite manager about sharing responsibility or making alternative plans for rematch. Inform club secretary of decision and match outcome.
· All behavior on sideline, players, parents, coaches is the responsibility of managers to control.
· Rolling substitutions are allowed in all Drogheda league games. Only players with valid ID card can play.

Age: boys 6 to 9/girls 6 to 8 years
The main objective of this phase is to learn all the fundamental movement skills using a well-structured, positive and fun approach. Soccer skills should be introduced, with an emphasis on fun, skill development and small-sided games.
Appropriate and correct running, jumping and throwing techniques are taught using the ABC's of athletics. Participation in as many sports as possible is encouraged. The development of these fundamental movement skills will contribute significantly to future at achievements.
